AMANDA PYE is a movement artist, actor and writer. She is interested in the in-betweens; those things don’t quite land and that feeling of something being gone before it even arrives. Through both live performance and film, Amanda loves digging into the unpredictability of human form and our capability to hold so many contradictions at once.

She has collaborated with a wide range of creators including Mikaela Demers, Lauren Runions, Candice Irwin, Sasha French, Aeris Körper, Krista Newey, Kate Hilliard, Apolonia Velasquez, Jaz Fairy J, Alias Dance Project, Frog in Hand and Shotgun Juliet Theatre Company. Most recently, Amanda performed in adelheid dance projects work on air created by Heidi Strauss; which earned a Dora Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble. Her own creative interests have been supported through residencies such as the Open Space Program at the National Ballet of Canada, the Performing Arts Creation Residency at the Banff Centre, and the CLEaR Forum Choreographic Lab supported by Mocean Dance. She has presented live performance creations at various events and festivals, including the Toronto Fringe and the Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival.

Amanda is currently working consistently as an actor on film and her work can be seen in various commercials, short films, and several television series. She continues to build connections to her physical practice as she offers movement coaching for actors prior to filming or auditioning as well as movement direction on set.  Amanda is also interested in creating and developing her own film work and is currently in post-production for her first short film moving still, in collaboration with co-director and sound designer Dorian Voos.

In the spaces in between, Amanda uses writing as a source for her performance and film work and enjoys creating poems, dialogue, and building characters. Her writing has been published in both online and physical publications. Amanda’s poem “lemons” was featured in the 2022 summer issue of The Dance Current.
